Baked Cheese Dip

We are visiting a dear friend and her family for dinner tomorrow night.  I've offered to bring an appitizer.  Being me, I left it until the last minute, but luckily I remembered the recipe list on the Everyday Style website.

I settled on the Baked Cheese Dip (pg 72), and my finger may have slipped into the mix before I baked it.  This is going to be so yummy tomorrow with the fancy crackers I plan to purchase on my way over.

INGREDIENTS:
  • 1 package (250 g) plain cream cheese, softened
  • 150 mL (2/3 cup) sharp cheddar cheese, grated
  • 75 mL (1/3 cup) sour cream
  • 75 mL (1/3 cup) mayonnaise
  • 5 mL (1 tsp.) Garlic & Herb Dip Seasoning Mix
  • 10 mL (2 tsp.) Sun-Dried Tomato Dip Seasoning Mix
  • 5 mL (1 tsp.) Lemon Dill Dip Seasoning Mix
DIRECTIONS:
  1. Preheat oven to 175°C/350°F.
  2. Mix together all ingredients until well blended.
  3. Pour mixture into Vanilla Cream Brie & Dip Baker (or a baking dish) and bake for 20 minutes or until slightly browned on top.
  4. Serve with crackers, small slices of bread, or pita rounds.

Snacking

I had such a craving for Ketchup chips today.  Such a classy grown up snack, I know!  Luckily I had stocked up on said chips, but we had guests.  What's a girl to do?

That's easy of course!  You dump the chips into Bamboo Serving Bowls (pg 12)! And presto, you have a classy, grown-up snack to serve your guests.

Did you know that Bamboo is waterproof?  That means that my 'chip' bowl can become a bowl of fresh fruit or even punch, without a worry!  It also means you can use it outside without worrying about it cracking or swelling like other wood bowls.

Another interesting fact is that it's also anti-bacterial.  While that doesn't necessarily matter so much for my chips, if you are using one of the Bamboo Boards (pg 13-14), you don't have to worry about that meat your are chopping up!

BOGO! A.K.A. Buy One Get One 1/2 Off!

I have a secret to tell you...

I love halloween! What I remember about being little and going out trick-or-treating, is getting to dress up as something interesting, and wandering the streets with first my sisters and dad, and later with friends.

And then of course, my favorite day of the year is Christmas!  Again because of the memories we constantly create every year with family and friends.

Why am I sharing all of this today?  Because of the fab BOGO sale going on!  In addition to the current catalog, there is a seasonal one that's only available until the end of October.  Everything is based around Halloween and Christmas, and everything is buy 1 get 1 1/2 off!  There are so many darling decorating ideas.  To be honest, I've been looking through it lately just to get that holiday feeling.

Mmmmm Soup!

It's been one of those days!  I'm sure you know what I mean.  While we don't have kids yet, we're busy enough going to work, meeting with the committees we are on, getting food ready for Thanksgiving, cleaning the house for guests.  I'm sure the list could go on, but I don't want to bore you!

What I did want to say today was how glad I was to home home exhausted, and find a box of Traditional Quick Bread Mix (pg 70) in the cupboard.  Why you might ask?  While I knew I didn't have the energy to do a lot of cooking, and I also knew that if I just cooked a pot of soup my lovely husband with be none too pleased.  It just won't fill him up!

With my handy bread mix however, I was able to fix a fresh, hot, loaf for bread to accompany our soup.

And was it ever good!

I love to keep a box or two of this mix in the cupboard, as it comes in handy for some many things.  Guests are easily impressed when you are able to prep and serve 'Cinnamon Apple Bread' or 'Cheesy Garlic Bread' or even a 'Dip and Serve Bread Bowl' in only an hour!  And of course all three recipes are available in the current catalog.

Tea for Two

What is better as the weather changes from bright and sunny to dark and gloomy then a lovely cup of hot tea while relaxing in front of a roaring fire?

... of course in my case, the 'fire' is a buring log dvd, but a girl can dream.  Here is what I'll have one day -

Until then though, I'll have to make due.  Sigh.

So I sip my Cinnamon Spice Sensation (pg 50) from my Vannilla Cream Mug (pg 22) and imagine the crackle of the fire.

Getting Ready for Pumpkins!

It's almost Thanksgiving, and my lovely husband has already started planning an elaborate carved pumpkin for Halloween.

After last year's 'extravaganza' with the younger siblings, I'm not so much for the carving portion.  But what I do love?  Pumpkin seeds straight from the oven!  So I thought I'd share an Everyday Style recipe, for you to try if you love Pumpkins seeds as much as me!

Roasted Garlic Pumpkin Seeds

INGREDIENTS:
  • 500 mL (2 cups) fresh pumpkin seeds (from about 1 pumpkin)
  • 15 mL (1 tbsp.) melted butter or vegetable oil
  • Roasted Garlic Sea Salt or Mixed Peppers & Garlic Seasoning
DIRECTIONS:
  1. Preheat oven to 190°C /375°F.
  2. Wash pumpkin seeds by rinsing well and removing any fibrous pulp.
  3. Place in a colander and shake well to remove any remaining water.
  4. Lay seeds on paper towels and pat dry or allow to air dry.
  5. In a large bowl, toss seeds in melted butter or oil and grind on sea salt or seasoning.
  6. Spread seeds in a single layer in a baking dish or on a baking stone and bake for 30 minutes (tossing after 15 minutes to turn seeds) or until golden brown.
  7. Let seeds cool before serving.

Yummy!  If you are looking for the Roasted Garlic Sea Salt or Mixed Peppers & Garlic Seasoning, you can find them on page 56 of the current catalog.  They are both so yummy in all kinds of recipes, you may as well get both.

Cinnamon Buns! Get Your Warm Cinnamon Buns!

Ok... so you can't really buy cinnamon buns from Everyday Style but you can buy the next best thing.  A Canadian made, biodegradable, eco-friendly, plant based, Cinnamon Bun scented candle!  Found on pages 91-92 of the current catalogue.

I usually purchase them in the 'votive' size.  With a burning time of 15-18 hours, they are long lasting but at a size that's easy to move about the house.  I usually start them in my 'Mission Wall Display' (page 28), and enjoy the scent while visiting with friends in our living room.  When the friends leave, and the mess has been cleared, I'll remove some of the clear candle cups, and head upstairs for a relaxing bubble bath.

Now that I think of it... perhaps it's the scent of cinnamon buns that causes me to eat so much when we have guests!

A New Month, A New Me!

If you know me, then you know that this month is my birthday!   It doesn't matter that I'm getting older, I enjoy spending the whole month of October talking about and anticipating my day!

This month, I've decided a new month means a new me!  I've just completed a weight loss program.  I was about 20 pounds over what is considered healthy for my height, so I've been working with a neutitionist to get healthy again.  Now that I'm back in healthy range, I'm feeling great, and it's gotten me to look at other parts of my life.

One of these places, is my home.  I'm a horrible pack rat.  I know it, and my family knows it.  In fact some of my extended family suffer from it too.  So.  I am trying to fix it.  I watch 'Horders' quite often.  I'm not nearly that bad, but 15 minutes in, and I'm itching to get rid of some of the junk in my home.  I've organized about 1 1/2 rooms, and have plans for the rest.  Eventually I want to at least have the main floor always 'guest ready'.

With all the reorganization, the plan is to slowly replace my cheap single life decor with classic quality products.  Of course, that made me think of Everyday Style, and after speaking my my consultant of many years, she convinced me to become an Everyday Style consultant!  Join me as I see where this new job can take me.
